Miranda-do-Corvo
Once a sleepy little town who’s claim to fame was a railway station the village is growing into a small modern town with all of the amenities that you could need.
With a population of 7,000 + spread over the following parishes. Bairro Novo, Bubau, Bujos, Cabeço, Cadaixo, Campo da Vila, Carapinhal, Corvo, Espinho, Fraldeu, Galhardo,
Godinhela, Lobazes, Lomba do Faval, Meãs, Moita, Moinhos, Montoiro, Outeiro dos Moinhos, Pai Viegas, Pereira, Pinheiro, Trémoa, Retorta, Ribeira dos Vicentes, Roçaio, Tábuas, Tróia,
Vale de Açor, Vale Salgueiro, Vale Simões, Vendas da Serra.
Several large supermarkets have set up shop in the area although they fail to compete with the fresh produce market held every Wednesday. There is also a monthly car boot sale
held in the market hall which attracts expats and locals from all over the region.
Miranda do Corvo translates as View over the Corvo River. The small river running through the centre of town gives the area a very attractive aspect. Whether you are strolling
around the shaded paths near the council offices or sitting outside having a coffee it’s a nice place to be.
The train station is a very handy facility in that you can go to the city of Coimbra for shopping or entertainment in under half an hour or you can catch a train to the beach at
Figuiera de Foz.
Miranda do Corvo also promotes its self as the “Centre of Chanfana” - this is a goat stew marinated with herbs and red wine. Cooked in a wood fired oven it is fantastic. Many people
visit the area just to have it again. If you would like to try it - The Museum Restaurant Chanfana is a living museum of regional cooking which specialises in traditional cuisine based on
goat meat, pork and game. Located at Quinta da Paiva there is also a small farm area where you can see goats from birth until ready for the table. Near the museum there are several
craft workshops with handmade arts and crafts items for sale.

“ Finding Coimbra Property Shop was the best thing that happened to us in our search for a property.
Graham could not have been more helpful, professional and ready to listen to us. He carefully took into account all of our thoughts, hopes and ‘must have’ lists and found us the perfect property. All of our thousands of questions were answered, we were given names of professional people that could help us to purchase, renovate and generally take care of two extremely nervous prospective purchasers….
We cannot recommend Graham highly enough and have found his recommendations for builders, solicitors etc as sound as he is!
We feel that we have a new friend in Portugal and he has advised us that this relationship will continue even though the house is now ours! Hooray! Many, many thanks Graham.
