THE AREA:
Ansiao is a small town which still retains its sense of community located in the centre of the Central Portugal (Beira Litoral) region. It plays host to lively traditional festas throughout the year. Once famed for handmade carpets the town has a fresh produce market and large supermarkets. Together with the associated council parishes of Alvorge, Ansião, Avelar, Chão de Couce, Lagarteira, Pousaflores, Santiago da Guarda and Torre de Vale de Todos. The population is around 13,000 people. A thriving expat communityis developing.
The town is served with a sports complex including swimming pool, cinema, library and internet cafes within their jurisdiction. The council has a very informative website http://www.cm-ansiao.pt/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=258&Itemid=210 so please check it out to see what’s happening in the area. You may be surprised just how much goes on here.
Local activities must include gastronomy and walking. Guided walks in both Portuguese and English are common, but you should feel free to wander down the public footpaths through forests and fields as much as you like. The views are often spectacular.
NEAREST MARKET:
The nearest weekly market is held every Saturday in the town. On market day this sleepy town experiences a little hustle and bustle. Residents from outlaying villages arrive to sell their garden grown vegetables, self-raised meat produce and fish and the general ambience is one of meeting friends, having a chat and getting the week's essentials. Everything you can think of is on sale here, including the occasional live chicken or goat!
The municipal market place is right across the road from a large supermarket and holds its own due to low cost fresh picked produce.
LOCAL ROADS:
The main IC3 road runs east towards Castelo Branco and Spain. The roads in the immediate area are all of tarmac or, in some cases, maintained stone track. Any car would be comfortable driving throughout this area.
“ To Whom It May Concern
I have been trying to find the right property abroad for ten years. Three years ago I visited the Silver Coast for a few days and viewed a number of properties but made no purchase but did conclude central Portugal was the right area for me. Then in May of this year I came to the area south of Coimbra also for a few days to see a number of properties in that region. I was immediately impressed by Coimbra Property Shop as:
1. They had the best selection of properties for viewing.
2. At the lowest price, including one property on with another agent which was on for substantially more with the other agent; the property in fact that I went on to buy. In other words his properties are on at a realistic price.
3. The best viewing service as the proprietor himself, Graham, drove me around to view the properties (I did not rent a car). This meant I had the best information from a native English speaker.
4. CPS is a registered Estate Agency
5. CPS only charged the seller for the service, not me as the buyer.
6. Graham’s dad runs a local property maintenance and building company which has a long and good history in the area that means that I can work done on the house and the house looked after whilst I am away. All the right contacts on tap (no pun intended but plumbing was on my mind!).
7. Graham has found me an excellent gardener and helped me in other ways beyond the call of duty such as lifts here and there and other things too numerous to mention.
I heatedly recommend CPS to any and all.
